NEWS

September 2018

During the month of September, we had 19 calls.  They consisted of 8 EMS calls, 6 false alarms, 1 service call, and 4 heavy equipment fires.


September 24 - We held classroom training on Flammable Liquids and Gases, taught by LSU-FETI instructor Jeremy Johnston.  There were 12 department members in attendance who received 4 credit hours each.


August 2018

During the month of August, we had 11 calls.  They consisted of 6 EMS calls, 1 MVA, 1 false alarm, 1 wildland fire, 1 rubbish fire, and 1 combine fire.


August 20 - We held classroom training on Fire Detection, Protection, and Suppression Systems, taught by LSU-FETI instructor David New.  There were 15 department members in attendance who received 3 credit hours each.


August 21 - We held classroom training on Fire Fighter Survival, taught by LSU-FETI instructor Jeremy Johnston.  There were 15 department members in attendance who received 3 credit hours each.


July 2018

During the month of July, we had 16 calls.  They consisted of 6 EMS calls, 1 MVA, 1 Emergency Incident, 4 structure fires, 1 grass fire, and 3 false alarms.


July 10 - We held classroom training on Safe Operation of Fire Apparatus - Tankers, taught by LSU-FETI instructor Johnny Ogden.  There were 15 department members in attendance who received 3 credit hours each.


July 11 - We held classroom training on Ventilation, taught by LSU-FETI instructor Jeremy Johnston.  There were 10 department members in attendance who received 3 credit hours each.


June 2018

During the month of June, we had 9 calls.  They consisted of 6 EMS calls, 1 MVA, 1 building fire, and 1 trash fire.


June 6 - Tensas Fire along with Concordia Fire participated in a Mock Line Strike, where we trained on how to respond in the event that we have a pipeline breach.  The training was put on by Enertech, with liaisons from Louisiana 811, LA Dept. of Natural Resources, Plains All American, and Enable Midstream Partners.


June 19 - We held classroom training on Fire Response and Size-Up, taught by LSU-FETI instructor Jeremy Johnston.  There were 10 department members in attendance who received 3 credit hours each.


June 21 - Tensas Fire took delivery of two 2019 Kenworth T-370 3000 Gallon tankers, from Fouts Bros. in Smyrna, Georgia.


May 2018

During the month of May, we had 16 calls.  They consisted of 9 EMS calls, 3 MVA's, 2 trash fires, and 2 false alarms.


May 21 - We held classroom training on Vehicle Rescue & Extrication, taught by LSU-FETI instructor Jeremy Johnston.  There were 12 department members in attendance who received 3 credit hours each.


May 22 - We held classroom training on Fire Cause Determination, taught by LSU-FETI instructor David New.  There were 10 department members in attendance who received 3 credit hours each.


April 2018

During the month of April, we had 15 calls.  They consisted of 8 EMS calls, 2 MVA's, 1 structure fire, 1 vehicle fire, 1 trash fire, and 2 false alarms.


April 23 - We held classroom and live fire training on MAX Fire Box, a prop that simulates structure fire on a scale level.  This class was taught by LSU-FETI instructors Mike Jackson and Jeremy Johnston.  There were 13 department members in attendance who received 4 credit hours each.  


April 26 - Tensas Fire participated in the annual Tensas 4-H Ag Safety Day program held at the Northeast Experiment Station, where we spoke with 4th and 5th grades about fire safety and gave a tour of fire truck and some of the equipment we use.


March 2018

During the month of March, we had 10 calls.  They consisted of 6 EMS calls, 2 false alarms, 1 grass fire, and 1 MVA.


March 9 - Tensas Fire attended a Tensas Academy teacher in-service and taught CPR/AED to Tensas Academy teachers.


March 26 - We held classroom training on Modern Fire Attack, taught by LSU-FETI instructor Mike Jackson.  There were 15 department members in attendance who received 4 credit hours each.


March 29 - We held Live Fire Training on Modern Fire Attack, taught by LSU-FETI instructors Johnny Ogden, David Watson, Mike Jackson, David New, Daniel Fuller, and David Coco.  There were 14 department members in attendance who received 4 credit hours each. 


March 30 - Tensas Fire participated in the Easter parade in the Town of Newellton.


February 2018

During the month of February, we had 6 calls.  They consisted of 5 EMS calls and 1 MVA.


February 26 - We held classroom training on Modern Fire Attack (Basic Fire Ground Operations), taught by LSU-FETI instructor David Coco.  There were 14 department members in attendance who received 4 credit hours each.


February 28 - We held Live Fire Training on Modern Fire Attack (Basic Fire Ground Operations), taught by LSU-FETI instructors David Coco, David Watson, Johnny Ogden, Jeremy Johnston, and David New.  There were 16 department members in attendance who received 4 credit hours each.

During the month of January, we had 20 calls.  They consisted of 5 false alarms, 1 service call, 5 grass fires, 1 vehicle fire, 2 structure fires, 1 special outside fire, and 5 EMS calls.


January 8 - We held classroom training on Hazardous Materials Operations, taught by LSU-FETI instructor Johnny Ogden.  There were 16 department members in attendance who received 4 credit hours each.


January 9 - We held classroom training on Hazardous Materials Operations, taught by LSU-FETI instructor Daniel Fuller.  There were 11 department members in attendance who received 4 credit hours each.


December 2017

During the month of December, we had 5 calls.  They consisted of 2 false alarms and 3 EMS calls.


We ended the year with a total of 162 calls.


November 2017

During the month of November, we had 11 calls.  They consisted of 1 brush fire, 1 trash fire, 2 building fires, and 7 EMS calls.


​On November 28-30, Property Insurance Association of Louisiana visited our department and gathered information to update Fire Insurance Ratings for property insurances in Tensas Parish. It will be several weeks before we have that information, however, it will be provided to the public as soon as we receive it.

During the month of October, we had 18 calls.  They consisted of 1 false alarm, 1 service call, 1 MVA, 2 crop fires, 2 vehicle fires, 3 cotton picker fires, 1 brush fire, 1 gin fire, and 6 EMS calls.


October 7 - Tensas Fire assisted with the Breast Cancer Awareness Walk held in Newellton.


October 9 - Tensas Fire visited Tensas Academy Pre-K through 3rd grade to give a program for Fire Prevention Week.


October 9 - We held classroom training on Operating Fire Pumps, taught by LSU-FETI instructor David Watson.  There were 14 department members in attendance who received 4 credit hours each.


October 10 - Tensas Fire visited Tensas Head Start to give a program for Fire Prevention Week.


October 10 - We held classroom training on Modern Fire Attack, taught by LSU-FETI instructor David Watson. There were 13 department members in attendance who received 4 credit hours each.


October 11 - Tensas Fire visited Newellton Elementary School Kindergarten through 3rd grade to give a program for Fire Prevention Week.


October 13 - Tensas Fire visited Tensas Elementary School Pre-K through 3rd grade to give a program for Fire Prevention Week.


October 18 - Tensas Fire took part in a Fire Drill at Tensas Elementary School, and performed a walk through of the school to help plan for possible future emergencies.


October 19 - Rusty Arnold achieved his Firefighter I certification and Parker Pearson achieved his Hazardous Materials/WMD Operations certification.


October 21 - Tensas Fire assisted with the Breast Cancer Awareness Walk held in St. Joseph.


October 27 - Tensas Fire participated in the Tensas Academy Homecoming Parade held in St. Joseph.


October 31 - Tensas Fire participated in 3 Trunk or Treat events: one held at the Tensas Parish Public Safety Building, one held at Tensas Academy, and one held in the Town of Waterproof.

September 11 - We held classroom training on Fire Service Communications, taught by LSU-FETI instructor Johnny Ogden.  There were 15 department members in attendance who received 3 credit hours each.


September 29 - Tensas Fire participated in the Tensas High School Homecoming Parade held in St. Joseph.


August 2017

During the month of August, we had 13 calls.  They consisted of 2 false alarms, 1 MVA, 1 MVA with pedestrian, 1 tree fire, 1 vehicle fire, and 7 EMS calls.


August 10 - Tensas Fire attended the Tensas Community Health Center Back to School Bash, where students were able to participated in fun and games and receive prizes.


August 14 - We held classroom training on Fire Suppression, taught by LSU-FETI instructor David Watson.  There were 13 department members in attendance who received 3 credit hours each.


August 22 - James Parker Pearson travelled to LSU-FETI in Baton Rouge, where he tested and passed his exam to receive certification in Hazardous Materials/WMD Awareness.


July 2017

During the month of July, we had 9 calls.  They consisted of 1 false alarm, 1 structure fire, 2 brush/grass fires, 1 MVA, and 4 EMS calls.


July 10 - We held classroom training on Forcible Entry, taught by LSU-FETI instructors Jeremy Johnston and Sammy Burns.  There were 16 department members in attendance who received 4 credit hours each.


July 11 - We held hands-on training on Forcible Entry, taught by LSU-FETI instructors David Watson, Sammy Burns, and David Coco.  There were 14 department members in attendance who received 4 credit hours each.


June 2017

During the month of June, we had 13 calls.  They consisted of 2 false alarms, 1 service call, 1 structure fire, 1 vehicle fire, 1 MVA, and 7 EMS calls.


May 2017

During the month of May, we had 19 calls.  They consisted of 1 false alarm, 2 service calls, 1 electrical fire, 1 vehicle/brush fire, 1 MVA, 1 emergency incident, and 12 EMS calls.


May 8 - We held training on Personal Protective Equipment and SCBA, taught by LSU-FETI instructor Johnny Ogden.  There were 9 department members in attendance who received 3 credit hours each.


April 2017

During the month of April, we had 17 calls.  They consisted of 1 vehicle fire, 1 tractor fire, 1 MVA, 2 false alarms, and 12 EMS calls.


April 10 - We held training on CPR, First Aid, and AED for our department members.  There were 8 department members who attended and became certified through the American Heart Association.  Each member received 3 credit hours of training.


April 26 - Tensas Parish Fire Protection District #1 participated in the Progressive Ag Safety Day, held at the Northeast Louisiana Experiment Station.  We spoke about fire protection and reviewed items we carry on a fire truck with 5th and 6th graders throughout the parish.


March 2017

During the month of March, we had 11 calls.  They consisted of 5 false alarms, 1 emergency incident, and 5 EMS calls.


March 13 - We held training on Fire Behavior, taught by LSU-FETI instructor Johnny Ogden.  There were 12 department members in attendance who received 3 credit hours each.


March 14 - We held training on Fire Cause Determination, taught by LSU-FETI instructor Sammy Burns.  There were 13 department members in attendance who received 3 credit hours each.


​February 2017

During the month of February, we had 12 calls.  They consisted of 2 false alarms, 2 tree/trash fires, 1 structure fire, 1 rekindle, and 6 EMS calls.


February 13 - We held classroom training on Flashover, taught by LSU-FETI instructor David Watson.  There were 17 department members in attendance who received 4 credit hours each.


February 14 - We held live fire training with the Flashover trailer.  LSU-FETI instructors present were David Watson, Johnny Ogden, Wes Anders, and David Coco.  There were 16 department members in attendance who received 4 credit hours each. There were also 5 members of Delta Volunteer Fire Department present who participated.


January 2017

During the month of January, we had 14 calls.  They consisted of 4 false alarms, 1 structure fire, 2 MVA's, and 7 EMS calls.


January 9 & 10 - We held training on Hazardous Materials Operations Level Refresher, taught by LSU-FETI instructor David Coco.  There were 13 department members in attendance on January 9th and 15 department members in attendance on January 10th.  Each member received 4 credit hours per night of attendance.


December 2016

During the month of December, we had 11 calls.  They consisted of 1 service call, 1 MVA, 1 tree fire, 1 horse trailer fire, 5 structure fires, and 2 EMS calls.  


This brings our total number of calls for 2016 to 188:  1 emergency incident, 19 false alarms, 50 fires at scene, 13 service calls, 19 MVAs, and 86 EMS calls.


December 8 - The following department members received LSU certifications:

  • Rusty Arnold - Hazardous Materials/WMD Operations
  • Amy Hall - Incident Safety Officer


December 10 - Tensas Fire participated in the Newellton Christmas Parade.


November 2016

During the month of November, we had 15 calls.  They consisted of 2 grass/brush fires, 2 service calls, 2 false alarms, 3 MVAs, and 6 EMS calls.


November 1 - We held live fire training on Liquefied Petroleum Gas, taught by LSU Instructors David Coco, David Watson, Greg Hill, and Daniel Copeland.  There were 12 department members in attendance who received 4 credit hours each.


The following department members have received LSU certifications:

  • Cody Uehling - Fire Fighter II


October 2016

During the month of October, we had 21 calls.  They consisted of 3 grass/brush fires, 1 heavy equipment fire, 2 vehicle fires, 2 module/bale fires, 1 service call, 1 MVA, 1 false alarm, and 10 EMS calls.


On October 1st, 8th, and 15th, Tensas Parish Fire District participated in a Breast Cancer Awareness walk in the towns of St. Joseph, Newellton, and Waterproof.


October 3 - We held training on Salvage & Overhaul, taught by LSU instructor David Watson.  There were 15 department members in attendance who received 3 credit hours each.


October 7 - Tensas Fire District participated in the Tensas High School Homecoming Parade.


On October 10th, 20th, and 21st, Tensas Fire District visited area schools and discussed fire prevention with Head Start through 3rd Grade as part of Fire Prevention Week.  Area schools included Tensas Academy, Tensas Head Start, Tensas Elementary School, and Newellton Elementary School.  Sparky was in town and able to visit with all of the students.


October 24 - We held training on Liquefied Petroleum Gas, taught by LSU instructor David Coco.  There were 14 department members in attendance who received 4 credit hours each.


October 25 - We held training on Vehicle Fires, taught by LSU instructors David Coco and Johnny Ogden.  There were 11 department members in attendance who received 4 credit hours each.


October 31 - Tensas Fire District participated in local Trunk-or-Treats at the Tensas Parish Sheriff's Office and at Tensas Academy.

During the month of September, we had 16 calls.  They consisted of 1 structure fire (with exposure), 2 heavy equipment fires, 1 grass fire, 1 cotton module fire, 2 service calls, 1 false alarm, and 8 EMS calls.

Phyllis Daves, a dispatcher for Tensas Parish Sheriff's Office, received her LSU certification in Telecommunicator I.


September 6 - We held training on Foam Equipment and Systems, taught by LSU-FETI instructor David Watson.  There were 9 department members in attendance who received 3 credit hours each.


September 19 - We held training on Ventilation, taught by LSU-FETI instructor David Watson.  There were 8 department members in attendance who received 3 credit hours each.


September 22 - Tensas Fire District participated in the Newellton Elementary Homecoming Parade.


September 24 - Tensas Fire District held a Fill the Boot drive for the Muscular Dystrophy Association.  We collected $1546.50 from the boot drive.  On September 25th, at a Back the Badge service held by St. Joseph United Pentecostal Church, we raised an additional $746.00 by passing the boot.  This makes our grand total for 2016 $2292.50.


September 26 - Assistant Chief Danny Lance attended an 8 hour course on Light Fixture Investigations, given by the Louisiana Chapter of the International Association of Arson Investigators.


August 2016

During the month of August, we had 14 calls.  They consisted of 1 structure fire (with exposure), 2 service calls, 3 MVAs, 1 emergency incident, and 7 EMS calls.

July 2016

June 2016

During the month of June, we had 16 calls.  They consisted of 1 structure fire, 1 rekindle, 1 vehicle fire, 1 MVA, 2 false alarms, and 10 EMS calls.


June 6 - We held training on Fire Cause Determination, taught by LSU-FETI instructor David Watson.  There were 15 department members in attendance who received 3 credit hours each.


June 20 - We held training on Scene Size-Up, Strategies and Tactics, taught by LSU-FETI instructor David Watson.  There were 15 department members in attendance who received 4 credit hours each.


June 22 - Our administrative staff, along with dispatchers from Tensas Parish Sheriff's Office, received training on Fire Department Communications, in preparation to challenge the Telecommunicator 1 Certification Exam through LSU-FETI.


May 2016

During the month of May, we had 16 calls.  They consisted of 3 structure fires, 1 vehicle fire, 1 grass fire, 1 service call, 2 MVA's, 1 false alarm, and 7 EMS calls.


May 3 - We participated in the Progressive Agriculture Safety Day hosted by LSU Ag Center.  We spoke to 5th and 6th graders about the different equipment found on a fire truck and what it is used for.


May 9 - We held training on Response and Size Up, taught by LSU-FETI instructor Johnny Ogden.  There were 5 department members in attendance who received 3 credit hours each.


May 23 - We held training on MAYDAY, taught by LSU-FETI instructor Wayne Cruse. There were 12 department members in attendance who received 3 credit hours each.


April 2016
During the month of April, we had 15 calls.  They consisted of 2 vehicle fires, 1 farm equipment fire, 1 structure fire, 2 false alarms, 1 service call, 2 motor vehicle accidents, and 6 EMS calls.

April 4 - We held live training on Basic Fireground Search and Rescue, taught by LSU-FETI instructors David Watson, David Coco, and Sammy Burns.  We had 10 department members in attendance who each received 4 credit hours.

April 5 - We held live training on Fire Fighter Survival, taught by LSU-FETI instructors David Watson, David Coco, Sammy Burns, and Wayne Cruse.  We had 11 members in attendance who each received 4 credit hours.

April 25 - We held training on Operating Fire Pumps, taught by LSU-FETI instructor David Watson.  We had 10 department members in attendance who each received 3 credit hours.

March 2016
During the month of March, we had 10 calls.  They consisted of 2 false alarms, 1 service call, 1 cooking fire, 2 MVA's, and 4 EMS calls.

March 1 & 3 - We held training on Hazardous Materials Operations Refresher, taught by LSU-FETI instructor David Watson. Each member present received 4 credit hours for attendance.

March 28 - We held training on Basic Fireground Search and Rescue, taught by LSU-FETI instructor David Watson.  Each member present received 4 credit hours for attendance.

March 29 - We held training on Fire Fighter Survival, taught by LSU-FETI instructor David Watson.  Each member present received 4 credit hours for attendance.

February 2016
During the month of February, we had 14 calls.  They consisted of 3 false alarms, 2 MVA's, 3 brush/trash fires, 3 structure fires, and 3 EMS calls.

February 25 - We held training on Hazardous Materials Operations Refresher, taught by LSU-FETI instructor David Watson. Each member present received 4 credit hours for attendance.

January 2016
During the month of January, we had 21 calls.  They consisted of 2 false alarms, 1 service call, 1 MVA, 2 vehicle fires, 3 structure fires, and 12 EMS calls.

January 11 - We held training on Personal Protective Equipment and Self-Contained Breathing Apparatus, taught by LSU-FETI instructor David Watson.  We had 22 members who received 3 credit hours for attendance.

December 2015
During the month of December, we had 14 calls.  They consisted of 3 false alarms, 1 fire, and 10 EMS calls.

December 12 - We participated in the Town of Newellton's Christmas parade.

December 26 - We participated in the Town of Waterproof's Christmas parade.

November 2015
During the month of November, we had 9 calls.  They consisted of 1 false alarm, 1 service call, 1 fire standby, and 6 EMS calls.

November 2, 3, 5 - We held training on a National Fire Academy Class, Strategies for Company Success, taught by LSU-FETI instructor Greg Hill.  Each member who attended received 4 credit hours per night.  We had 9 department members who received credit through the National Fire Academy for attending all three classes.

November 20 - Chief Ricky Jones, Asst. Chief Amy Hall, and Asst. Chief Danny Lance tested and passed certification with LSU on Fire Service Instructor 1.

October 2015
During the month of October, we had 12 calls.  They consisted of 3 false alarms, 3 grass/brush fires, 2 structure fires, and 4 EMS calls.

October 7 - We visited Tensas Parish Head Start as part of Fire Prevention Week.

October 8 - We visited Tensas Elementary School as part of Fire Prevention Week.

October 13 - We visisted Tensas Academy as part of Fire Prevention Week.

October 14 - We visisted Newellton Elementary as part of Fire Prevention Week.

October 17 - The fire department held a Fill the Boot drive to benefit the Muscular Dystrophy Association.  We were out at the Hwy 605/604 intersection in St. Joseph, and the Hwy 605/Verona Street intersection in Newellton.  We collected a total of $1237.44.

During the month of September, we had 14 calls.  They consisted of 2 false alarms, 4 service calls, 1 tree fire, 1 cotton picker fire, 2 MVA's, and 4 EMS calls.

September 15 - We held training on Response and Size-Up, taught by LSU-FETI instructor David Watson.  We had 12 department members who received 3 credit hours for attendance.

September 22 - We participated in Newellton Elementary School's 2015 Homecoming Parade.

September 25 - We participated in Tensas High School's 2015 Homecoming Parade.

During the month of August, we had 18 calls.  They consisted of 4 false alarms, 1 MVA, 5 brush fires, and 8 EMS calls.

August 17 - We held training on CPR/AED and First Aid for our volunteers.  We had 10 department members who attended and gained certification.

August 22 - The fire department held a Fill the Boot drive to benefit the Muscular Dystrophy Association.  We were out at the Hwy 605/604 intersection in St. Joseph, and the Hwy 605/Verona Street intersection in Newellton.  We collected a total of $1765.16.  We will continue to take donations until the end of October.

July 2015
During the month of July, we had 21 calls.  They consisted of 4 false alarms, 3 structure fires, 2 vehicle fires, 2 MVA's, and 10 EMS calls.

July 4 - We participated in the Town of Waterproof Independence Day parade, and the Lake Bruin Flotilla.  We were on standby for fireworks on Lake Bruin and Waterproof.

July 6 - We held training on Driver Operator, taught by LSU-FETI instructor David Watson.  We had 14 department members who received 3 credit hours for attendance.

July 14 - Chief Aronstein with the Louisiana State Fire Marshal's Office visited our department to present a metal plaque, "Louisiana Proud - Firefighter", from Firefighter Proud, to bring recognition to our career and volunteer firefighters.

July 20 - We held training on Ventilation, taught by LSU-FETI instructor David Watson.  We had 14 department members who received 3 credit hours for attendance.

June 2015
During the month of June, we had 14 calls.  They consisted of 3 false alarms, 2 structure fires, 1 vehicle fire, 1 landing zone request, and 7 EMS calls.

June 9 - We held training on Safe Operation of Fire Apparatus - Tankers, taught by LSU-FETI instructor David Watson.  We had 14 department members who received 3 credit hours for attendance.

June 15-19 - Chief Ricky Jones attended classes at the 2015 Joint LSFA/LFCA Conference on the new PIAL rating changes, in an attempt to gain knowledge needed to keep the current ratings we have.

June 22 - We held training on Operating Fire Pumps, taught by LSU-FETI instructor David Watson.  We had 11 department members who received 3 credit hours each for attendance.

June 24 - Chief Ricky Jones participated in a book reading at the Tensas Parish Library for local children.

May 2015
During the month of May, we had 14 calls.  They consisted of 2 structure fires, 2 false alarms, and 10 EMS calls.

May 4 - We held training on Fire Fighter Safety, taught by LSU-FETI instructor David Watson.  We had 11 department members who received 3 credit hours each for attendance.

April 2015
During the month of April, we had 8 calls.  They consisted of 4 EMS calls, 3 fire calls, and 1 false alarm.

April 6 - We held training on Salvage and Overhaul, taught by LSU-FETI instructor David Watson.  We had 8 department members who received 3 credit hours for attendance.

April 21 - We participated in the Progressive Agriculture Safety Day hosted by LSU Ag Center.  We spoke to 5th and 6th graders about the different equipment found on a fire truck and what it is used for.

April 28 - We held training on Fire Behavior, taught by LSU-FETI instructor David Watson.  We had 19 department members who received 3 credit hours each for attendance.

March 2015
During the month of March, we had 10 calls.  They consisted of 2 structure fires, 1 car fire, 1 emergency incident, 1 false alarm, and 5 EMS calls.

March 16 and 24 - We held training on Hazardous Materials Operations Refresher, taught by LSU-FETI instructor David Watson.  We had 15 members attend the 16th and received 4 credit hours each.  We had 13 members attend the 24th and received 4 credit hours each.  

March 19-21 - Bro. Scott Byrd, one of our department chaplains, attended a conference on Critical Incidents in Alexandria.  He participated in Assisting Individuals in Crisis Peer Support and Group Crisis Intervention.  The class was instructed by Edgar Hatcher, from Chesterfield, MO.

February 2015
During the month of February, we had 16 calls.  They consisted of 2 false alarms, 3 service calls, 1 structure fire, 1 MVA, and 9 EMS calls.

February 3 - We held training for Flashover, taught by LSU-FETI instructor David Watson.  There were 16 department members who received 3 credit hours each for attendance.  

February 5 - We participated in live fire training with the Flashover trailer prop.  LSU-FETI instructors were David Watson, Wes Anders, and David Coco.  Northeast Louisiana Ambulance Service was on hand to monitor medical status.  There were 15 department members who received 3 credit hours each for participation.

February 24 - Five of our department members attended a Grain Bin Rescue Workshop in Crowville.  The class was led by Dan Neenan, Director of the National Education Center for Agricultural Safety at Northwest Iowa Community College.  The class was sponsored by Franklin Parish Farm Bureau, Crop Production Services, and Big River Rice & Grain.

January 2015
During the month of January, we had 11 calls.  They consisted of 2 structure fires and 9 EMS calls.  

January 15 & 27 - We held training for SCBA Refresher, taught by LSU-FETI instructor Wes Anders.  The first night, we had 20 department members in attendance who received 3 credit hours each.  The second night, we had 14 department members in attendance who received an additional 3 credit hours each.  

December 2014
During the month of December, we had 15 calls.  They consisted of 1 MVA, 3 false alarms, 1 cancelled, 1 structure fire, 1 equipment fire, 2 trash/brush fires, 1 pier fire, and 5 EMS calls.

November 2014
During the month of November, we had 14 calls.  They consisted of 1 tree fire, 1 MVA, and 12 EMS calls.

Assistant Chiefs' Amy Hall and Danny Lance passed a written and practical exam and are now certified and licensed EMTs.  

October 2014
During the month of October, we had 12 calls.  They consisted of 1 false alarm, 4 MVA's, 1 service call, 3 grass/brush fires, and 3 EMS calls.

The week of October 6-10, we participated in Fire Prevention Week.  We visited with 5 schools (Tensas Head Start, Tensas Elementary, Tensas Academy, Newellton Christian Academy, and Newellton Elementary School - head Start up to 3rd grade) speaking to approximately 300 students. 

The week of October 6-10, Assistant Chief Danny Lance attended Fire Investigator School at LSU-FETI's Pine Country campus, where he sat for the exam and received his certification as Fire Investigator.

October 14 - We held training on Portable Fire Extinguishers, taught by LSU-FETI instructor David Watson.  We had 11 department members receiving 3 credit hours each for attendance.

September 2014
During the month of September, we had 19 calls.  They consisted of 2 false alarms, 1 MVA, 2 farm equipment fires, 2 trash/grass fires, and 12 EMS calls.

September 8 - We held training on Fire Cause Determination, taught by LSU-FETI instructor David Watson.  We had 10 department members receiving 3 credit hours each for attendance.

September 16 - We attended the Safety Meeting for LSU Ag Northeast Research Station to give a demonstration on fire extinguishers.

September 22-26 - Asst. Chief Amy Hall attended a Firehouse Software Education and Training Seminar in New Orleans to attend Firehouse related training classes and discuss the fire department's use of Firehouse applications.

September 30 - We participated in the Newellton Elementary School Homecoming Parade.

August 2014
During the month of August, we had 17 calls.  They consisted of 3 false alarms, 1 MVA, 1 trash fire, and 12 EMS calls.

August 4-5 - We held training on Traffic Incident Management, taught by LSU-FETI instructor David Watson.  We had 18 department members who attended on the 4th for 3 credit hours each, and 13 department members who attended on the 5th for an additional 3 credit hours each.  

August 19 - We hosted the Northeast Louisiana Firefighters Association monthly meeting at the Tensas Parish Community Center.

August 26 - We took possession of the newly built fire station in Waterproof, located at 8584 Highway 65, in the town limits of Waterproof.  The station will be fully operable by September 5th.  

July 2014
During the month of July, we had 27 calls.  They consisted of 5 false alarms, 2 service calls, 2 vehicle fires, 2 structure fires, and 16 EMS calls.

July 14 - We held training on Foam Equipment and Systems, taught by LSU-FETI instructor David Watson.  We had 18 department members receiving 3 credit hours each for attendance.

July 28 - We held a 1403 Skills Refresher course on SCBA, taught by LSU-FETI instructor Wes Anders.  We had 19 department members receiving 3 credit hours each for attendance.

June 2014
During the month of June, we had 15 calls.  They consisted of 3 false alarms, 1 vehicle fire, 2 crop/brush fires, 1 dumpster fire, 3 structure fires, 1 MVA, and 4 EMS calls.

May 9 - We held training on Ropes and Knots, taught by LSU-FETI instructor David Watson.  We had 15 department members who received 3 credit hours each for attendance.

May 10 - We held training on Rescue, taught by LSU-FETI instructor David Watson.  We had 11 department members who received 3 credit hours each for attendance.

May 2014

May 5 - We held training on Thermal Imaging, taught by LSU -FETI instructor Wes Anders.  We had 14 department members attending who received 3 credit hours each.

May 10 - The fire department participated in "Wag at the Ag," put on by the Tensas Parish Police Jury.  We had the command center and a fire truck set up for the community to view and passed out fire safety literature.

May 19 - We held training on Apparatus Inspection and Maintenance, taught by LSU-FETI instructor David Watson.  We had 12 department members attending who received 3 credit hours each.

April 2014
During the month of April, we had 16 calls.  They consisted of 5 false alarms, 1 service call, 1 trash fire, 3 structure fires, and 6 EMS calls.

April 14 & 15 - We held training on Hazardous Materials Operations Refresher, taught by LSU-FETI instructor David Watson.  Each night was 4 credit hours.  We had 14 members who attended both nights, for a total of 8 credit hours.

April 30 - We participated in the Progressive Agriculture Safety Day held at the LSU AgCenter Northeast Research Station.  We discussed with Tensas Parish 5th and 6th graders about the tools we operate on a fire/rescue unit.

March 2014
During the month of March, we had 17 calls.  They consisted of 1 false alarm, 2 MVA's, 1 service call, 1 vehicle fire, 3 trash/brush fires, 1 mutual aid given to Madison Parish, 4 fire structure fires, and 4 EMS calls.

March 3, 4, and 6 - We held training on Fire Pump Operations, taught by LSU-FETI instructor David Watson.  Each member attending received 4 credit hours for each night, for a total of 12 credit hours for perfect attendance.

February 2014
During the month of February, we had 12 calls.  They consisted of 4 incident calls, 2 service calls, 2 MVA's, and 4 EMS calls.  

February 3 - We held training on Flashover, taught by LSU-FETI instructor David Watson.  There were 16 members who attended, receiving 3 credit hours each.  

January 2014
During the month of January, we had 20 calls.  They consisted of 3 building fires, 1 vehicle fire, 2 service calls, 2 false alarms, 4 cancelled calls, and 8 EMS calls.

January 13, 14 & 16 - We held training on Arson Detection for the First Responder, a National Fire Academy Class, taught by LSU-FETI instructor Bobby Strozier.  There were 10 members who attended all three nights, receiving 12 credit hours each, and will receive a certificate of completion from the National Fire Academy.  

December 2013
During the month of December, we had 17 calls.  They consisted of 2 car fires, 1 service call, 3 false alarm/cancelled, 3 house fire calls, and 8 EMS calls.

December 23 - The fire department took delivery on a 2012 Ferrara Ember that is now housed at St. Joseph station (Station 1).  

November 2013
During the month of November, we had 15 calls.  They consisted of 1 heavy equipment fire, 2 service calls, 4 false alarms, and 8 EMS calls. 

Construction has been started on our new station in Waterproof, located at 8584 Highway 65.

November 4-5 - We held training on Liquefied Petroleum Gas (LPG) and participated in a live fire training prop, taught by LSU-FETI insructor Bobby Strozier with assistance from instructor David Watson.  There were 11 members the first night receiving 3 credit hours each and 9 members participating the second night receiving 3 credit hours each.  We also had 6 firefighters from 3 surrounding departments present to participate. 

November 15 - We visited Newellton Elementary to discuss fire safety with several classes.  

October 2013
During the month of October, we had 30 calls.  They consisted of 1 crop fire, 1 rescue call, 2 structure fires, 1 false alarm, and 25 EMS calls.

October 7 - We held training on Courage to be Safe, taught by LSU-FETI instructor David Coco.  There were 11 members in attendance receiving 4 credit hours each.

October 10 - Tensas Parish Fire Department, along with Sparky, participated in Tensas High School's Homecoming Parade.

October 14 - Tensas Parish Fire Department, along with Sparky, visited Pre-K and 1st graders at Tensas Academy, to speak about fire prevention. 

October 24 - We held training on Strategy and Tactics (Scene Size-up), taught by LSU-FETI instructor David Watson.  There were 8 members in attendance receiving 3 credit hours each.  

September 2013
During the month of September, we had 38 calls.  They consisted of 1 cooking fire, 1 service call, 4 brush/grass fires, 1 crop fire, 3 false alarms ,1 MVA, and 27 EMS calls.

September 24 - Tensas Parish Fire participated in Newellton Elementary School's Homecoming Parade.

August 2013
During the month of August, we had 29 calls.  They consisted of 1 tractor fire, 3 grass/brush fires, 1 structure fire, 1 emergency incident, and 23 EMS calls.

June 2013
During the month of June, we had 23 calls.  They consisted of 1 cooking fire, 1 vehicle fire, 2 brush/crop fires, 1 service call, 2 false alarms, 3 MVAs, and 13 EMS calls.

June 3 - We held training on Relay Pumping Operations, taught by LSU-FETI instructor David Watson.  There were 16 members in attendance receiving 3 credit hours each.

June 20 - We held training on Fire Detection, Alarm, & Suppression Systems, taught by LSU-FETI instructor Wes Anders.  There were 12 members in attendance receiving 3 credit hours each.

May 2013
During the month of May, we had 28 calls.  They consisted of 2 structure fires, 1 service call, 3 false alarms, 1 MVA, and 21 EMS calls.

May 6 - We held training on Fire Pump Theory, taught by LSU-FETI instructor Wes Anders.  There were 17 members in attendance receiving 3 credit hours each.

May 7 - We held training on Operating Fire Pumps, taught by LSU-FETI instructor Wes Anders.  There were 15 members in attendance receiving 3 credit hours each.

April 2013
During the month of April, we had 22 calls.  They consisted of 1 grass fire, 1 service call, 1 false alarm, 1 MVA, and 18 EMS calls.

April 8/11 - We held training on Firefighter Survival, taught by LSU-FETI instructor David Watson.  There were 12 members who attended both nights and received 8 hours credit each. 

April 17 - We participated in the Progressive Agriculture Safety Day at the Tensas Parish Ag Arena, with assistance from Northeast Ambulance Service.  We taught 5th and 6th graders how to recognize the need for and initiation of CPR.  

March 2013
During the month of March, we had 18 calls.  They consisted of 3 structure fires, 1 vehicle fire, 1 brush fire, 1 mutual aid given, 3 MVAs, and 9 EMS calls.

March 14/21 - We held training on Operating Emergency Vehicles/Driver Training, taught by LSU-FETI instructor David Watson.
There were 13 members who attended both nights and received 12 credit hours each.  

February 2013
During the month of February, we had 23 calls.  They consisted of 1 structure fire, 1 false alarm, 1 MVA, and 20 EMS calls.

February 12-14 - We held a CPR class for the Tensas Academy 9th Grade Health Class.  14 students and 1 teacher are now certified to perform adult/child/infant CPR for two years.

There was no training held in February. 

January 2013
During the month of January, we had 17 calls.  They consisted of 2 grass fires, 1 service call, 1 MVA, and 13 EMS calls.

January 7-8 - We held training on SCBA Refresher, taught by LSU-FETI instructor David Coco.  There were 15 department members receiving 3 credit hours each the first night.  There were 16 department members receiving 3 credit hours each the second night.

December 2012
During the month of December, we had 34 calls.  They consisted of 1 structure fire, 1 utility trailer fire, 1 service call, 3 false alarms, 2 electrical fires, 1 trash fire, 1 MVA, 1 rescue call, and 22 EMS calls, and 1 cancelled.

There was no training held in December due to the holidays.

November 2012
During the  month of November, we had 19 calls.  They consisted of 1 vehicle fire, 1 structure fire, 1 trash fire, 1 grass fire, 1 MVA, and 14 EMS calls.

November 8-9 - We held training on Liquified Petroleum Gas (LPG), taught by LSU-FETI instructor David Coco with instructor David Watson assisting.  There were 15 department members in attendance receiving 8 credit hours each.

November 20 - Several department members attended the Northeast Louisiana Firefighters Association meeting in Trout, LA, where Chief Ricky Jones was re-elected to the position of Vice President.

November 30 - We received our new rating information from PIAL.  Tensas Parish continues to maintain a Class 7 rating, and each town continues to maintain a Class 5 rating.

October 2012
During the  month of October, we had 19 calls.  They consisted of 2 cotton picker fires, 2 cooking fires, 1 structure fire, 1 vehicle fire, 1 grass fire, 4 false alarms, and 8 EMS calls.

October 11 - The fire department participated in the 2012 Tensas High School Homecoming Parade.

October 13 - We held training on the SCBA Maze Trailer, taught by LSU-FETI instructor David Coco.  There were 10 department members in attendance receiving 8 credit hours each.

October 15-17 - Randy Lowe with PIAL (Property Insurance Association of Louisiana) was in the parish conducting the insurance rating.  We should have information on the ratings by the end of the year. 

October 18 - We visited with Tensas Academy Preschool and Kindergarten on Fire Prevention, and took a pumper truck inform students of the tools we use in the fire service.

October 23 - We visited with Tensas Parish Head Start on Fire Prevention, and took a pumper truck inform students of the tools we use in the fire service.

October 31 - We visited with Newellton Elementary 2nd Grade on Fire Prevention, and took a pumper truck inform students of the tools we use in the fire service.

September 2012
During the month of September, we had 22 calls.  They consisted of 1 tractor fire, 1 module fire, 1 vehicle fire, 5 grass fires, 1 structure fire, 1 MVA, and 12 EMS calls.

September 4-7 - LA Pump & Maintenance returned and completed service and repairs to our pumper trucks.

We held no training during the month of September.

August 2012
During the month of August, we had 22 calls.  They consisted of 1 combine fire, 1 trash fire, 3 brush/grass fires, 2 service calls, 3 MVA's, and 12 EMS calls.

August 9-11 - Several department members attended the 2012 Louisiana State Firemen's Association in Shreveport, LA and attended classes on spoliation issues, arson fire determination, preparing for courtroom examination, investigating fatal fires, meth lab recognition, and understanding the K-9 role in arson. 

August 20, 22, & 23 - We held training on the Wildland/Urban Interface, taught by LSU-FETI instructor David Coco.  There were 13 department members in attendance August 20, 7 department members in attendance August 22, and 6 department members in attendance August 23.  Each member received 4 credit hours for each night of attendance.  We had 6 deparment members who attended all three nights and will receive 12 credit hours, in addition to a certificate from the National Fire Academy for completion of the course.

August 21 - Tensas Parish hosted the August meeting of the Northeast Louisiana Firefighters Association at the Tensas Parish Community Center in St. Joseph.  Air Evac held training on Landing Zones and there were 12 department members in attendance who will receive training credit and a certificate from Air Evac for completion of the course.

August 27 - LA Pump & Maintenance was here to do maintenance and pump tests on our pumper trucks.  They were here for 2 days and had to leave early due to Hurricane Isaac.  They will return in September to complete testing.

July 2012
During the month of July, we had 27 calls.  They consisted of 2 structure fires, 2 brush/grass fires, 1 trash fire, 4 false alarms, 1 service call, 3 MVA's, and 14 EMS calls.

July 10 & 12 - We held training on Hazardous Materials Operational Level Refresher, taught by LSU-FETI instructor David Coco.  There were 6 department members who attended one night of class and received 4 credit hours each.  There were 7 department members who attended both nights and received 8 credit hours each.

July 11 - Asst. Chief Amy Hall, Asst. Chief Danny Lance, and Volunteer Courtney Bamburg attended a presentation of "Dream Big" at the Tensas Parish Public Library, where they spoke to children about the importance of staying in school, obeying parents, and staying off drugs, in order to be a productive member of society

June 2012
During the month of June, we had 28 calls.  They consisted of 2 structure fires, 2 service calls, 2 false alarms, and 22 EMS calls.

June 18 - We held training on Relay Pumping Operations, taught by LSU-FETI instructor David Watson.  There were 13 fire department members receiving 3 credit hours each for attendance.

June 30 - The Saturday prior to the 4th of July, Tensas Fire, Tensas Parish Sheriff's Office, Northeast Ambulance, and Air Evac Lifeteam 100 posted at a pier on the end of Cypress Point Drive courtesy of Andy Roberts to monitor Lake Bruin for safety.

May 14 - We held training on Fire Pump Theory, taught by LSU-FETI instructor Wayne Cruse.  There were 13 fire department members receiving 3 credit hours each for attendance.

April 2012
During the month of April, we had 12 calls.  They consisted of 3 structure fires, 3 grass/brush fires, 1 trash fire, 1 false alarm, 1 MVA, and 3 EMS calls.

April 19 - We held training on Vehicle Rescue & Extrication, taught by LSU-FETI instructor David Coco.  There were 15 fire department members receiving 4 credit hours each for attendance.

April 20 - Tensas Academy Kindergartener's visited the St. Joseph station for a tour of the trucks and equipment.  They all had a chance to visit with Sparky the fire dog and Freddie the fire truck.

April 25 - We participated in the Progressive Agriculture Safety Day at the Ag Arena located on Highway 65.  We used a smoke/storm trailer, courtesy of LaSalle Parish, to teach 5th and 6th graders the importance of Tornado Safety and Fire Safety. 

March 2012
During the month of March, we had 19 calls. They consisted of 3 structure fires, 1 brush fire, 2 false alarms, 1 service call, and 12 EMS calls.

March 15 - We held training on Fire Fighter Personal Protective Equipment, taught by LSU-FETI instructor David Watson. There were 20 department members receiving 3 credit hours each for attendance.

February 2012
During the month of February, we had 17 calls. They consisted of 1 structure fire, 1 vehicle fire, 1 service call, 3 MVA's, and 11 EMS calls.

February 16 - We held training on Safe Operation of Fire Apparatus - Tankers, taught by LSU-FETI instructor David Watson. There were 19 department members receiving 3 credit hours each for attendance.

February 21 - We submitted our PIAL rating package. A representative will be here in a few months to do our PIAL inspection.

January 2012
During the month of January, we had 19 calls. They consisted of 2 structure fires, 1 brush fire, 1 MVA, and 15 EMS calls.

January 17 - Chief Jones attended the Northeast Louisiana Firefighters Association meeting in Winnsboro, where he was elected Vice President to the organization.

January 19 - We held training on Responding to Utility Emergencies, taught by LSU-FETI instructor Clay Morgan, evaluated by David Watson.  There were 13 department members receiving 4 credit hours each for attendance.


January 28 - Chief Jones attended the Louisiana Fire Chief's Association Executive Board Meeting in Baton Rouge, where he serves as the District 8 Representative for the organization.

December 2011
During the month of December, we had 6 calls. They consisted of 4 EMS calls and 2 grass/brush fires.

December 9 - We took possession of two 2012 Ford Expeditions funded by USDA grant/loan. 

December 17 - We participated in the Newellton Christmas Parade put together by Newellton Christian Academy.

November 2011
During the month of November, we had 15 calls. They consisted of the following: 5 grass/brush fires, 1 structure fire, 1 vehicle fire, 2 false alarms, 2 motor vehicle accidents, and 4 EMS calls.

November 8 -  We completed a First Responder Recertification Course. The department now has 16 members who are certified in CPR/AED and first responder. 

November 3, 7, and 14 - We had training on Strategy and Tactics for Initial Company Operations, taught by LSU-FETI instructor Bobby Strozier. This class qualifies as officer training under the National Fire Academy. Two department members received 4 credit hours for attending one night. Eight department members received 8 credit hours for attending two nights. Six department members received 12 credit hours and accreditation from the National Fire Academy for attending all three nights. 

October 2011
During the month of October, we had 26 calls. They consisted of the following: 7 grass/brush fires, 2 service calls, 3 false alarms, 3 structure-related fires, 1 heavy equipment fire, 1 landfill fire, and  9 EMS calls.

October 11 - We participated in Newellton Elementary School's homecoming parade.

September 2011
During the month of September, we had 15 calls. They consisted of the following: 3 grass/brush fires, 2 service calls, 2 vehicle fires, 1 false alarm, 3 motor vehicle accidents, 1 heavy equipment fire, and 3 EMS calls.

September 1 - Air Evac Lifeteam, out of their Rayville, LA office, held a class on proper procedures for calling in, landing, and assisting with their crew in the event that we may need their assistance with an emergency. There were 13 department members receiving 3 credit hours each for attendance.

September 15 - We held training on Personal Protective Equipment as a 1403 Skills Refresher, taught by LSU-FETI instructor David Watson. There were 9 department members receiving 3 credit hours each for attendance.

September 30 - We participated in Tensas High School's homecoming parade with Sparky in attendance.

August 2011
During the month of August, we had 14 fire calls. They consisted of the following: 4 house/structure fires, 7 brush/grass fires, 2 heavy equipment fires and 1 service call.

August 1 - We held training on Fire Pump Theory, taught by LSU-FETI instructor David Coco. There were 9 department members receiving 3 credit hours each for attendance.

August 16 - Tensas Parish Fire District hosted the monthly Northeast Louisiana Fire Fighter's Association meeting at the Tensas Parish Community Center in St. Joseph. Lee Stanley with LA Pump & Maintenance Services provided the meal catered by Big Boy's BBQ in Winnsboro. Michael Donahue, the new director for LSU-FETI, attended to answer questions and concerns.

August 16-17 - Lee Stanley, with LA Pump & Maintenance Services, was here to perform annual pump tests our our 12 pumper trucks. All passed.

August 18 - We held training on Operating Fire Pumps, taught by LSU-FETI instructor David Watson. There were 12 department members receiving 3 credit hours each for attendance.
